The Porcelain Treasures

of Paris:1860 - 1910

by

Louise Hedrick

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Dousman Stagecoach Inn Museum

Imagine Paris 150 years ago. Under the rule of Napoleon III,

a new Paris was built with an affluent middle class. During this time, the little girls of Paris played with exquisite porcelain dolls. From 1860 to 1880, these were the poupees of French fashion ladies. From 1880-190, it was the bebes (young children) or mignonettes (tiny all bisques or "pocket dolls").

Then from1905 on to the 1950's, the most popular doll in Paris was the beloved "Bleuette." It was the practice then for little girls to have but one doll. Birthdays, Christmas and special events were celebrated with a trip to the many shops that catered to these children for a special ensemble, accessory or perhaps a trunk to store these items.

Join us on Sunday, September 19, 2010 for a trip back to this time to see a collection of beautiful antique dolls characteristic of this 50 year period. Also displayed will be their wardrobes, accessories and books highlighting this period.

Louise Hedrick is a renowned antique doll expert, author, teacher and costume designer, specializing in French fashions, bebes and all-bisque dolls. She teaches doll costuming workshops and gives seminars to dollmakers and collectors throughout the United States. She is active in a variety of dolls organizations such as: The International Guild of Miniature Artisans, the Doll Artisan Guild International and the United Federation of Doll Clubs for which she serves as a national judge.

Mrs. Hedrick co-authored with Barbara Hilliker Bleuette's Clothing Patterns ,1905-1916. In addition ,she was a major contributor to two other books by Barbara Hilliker: Stellar d'Arte and Bleuette,The Doll and Her Wardrobe. Her new book A French Fashion Wardrobe, 1864 -1874 will be published in July, 2010.
